Ian was happy and well-rounded, until tragedy struck in the form of his father’s death. Ian realised his father would have survived if a donor heart had been available. After that fateful day, Ian promised his mother that he would work tirelessly to prevent future transplant patients receiving the same news as they had.
After a house move, a new school and new friends, Ian settles down to fulfilling his promise by pursuing a career in medicine, searching for the answers that would change the world.
Ian found the answers he was looking for, and to all intentions and purposes, changed the medical world as we know it. But, feeling rejected and alone after former school friendships had broken down, there became a darker side to his work. Ian found a way to make sure those friends stayed with him, in his mind and his life, for always.
About the author
Born in Langley Mill on the Nottinghamshire-Derbyshire border (the next village to Eastwood, the home of D.H.Lawrence) on 22nd June 1962,the fourth of six children of a hard working coal mining family, David was born at home whilst his father had gone to a local phone box in the early hours of the morning to call for an ambulance. The family moved to Langley when David was three, and lived for the next ten years in the house on Lacey fields road that had been the house of the manager of New Langley colliery. The family moved again when David was thirteen, to Aldercar, the other side of Langley Mill. His education was achieved at Langley infants school, Marlpool Junior school and Aldercar comprehensive school, he left full time education in 1978. He left home to live in Heanor, Derbyshire when he married his first wife, the marriage lasted for three years, a child was born but sadly died at the age of fifteen. David has two children in their twenties from his second marriage. He has lived in Grantham, Lincolnshire for the last fifteen years and at present, works for Royal Mail as a postman. The first book “Roman Gold” came about because David wondered what happened to the owners of the wealth that is discovered from time to time, buried in fields waiting to be found. Why did they never come back and claim what was theirs? this is his first book, which hopefully will eventually become a trilogy, to tell the whole story of Roman gold.
Happily now. Roman gold trilogy has been published and I am very pleased to see it available on amazon.
Since finishing the Roman gold trilogy David has branched out into science fiction with ‘Migration’ and ‘Forerunners’ both are different angles on the same story of alien intervention, how would we react if the entire human race was invited to migrate to a different planet? how would it affect the normal person in the street if they were abducted for a while and lost three weeks of the life that they couldn’t account for in the run up to alien contact? these are the themes of these two new books.
‘New Model jury’ is an exercise in crime and punishment, what would happen if a government tackled crime in a drastic way? made the punishment fit the crime? made criminals think twice before acting? surely that would be a good thing, make the country a safer place to live, that’s what Holly Ramie thought when she was given the opportunity to put her ideas into practice…
‘Kathleen’ looks at the theme of time travel and the traumatic events that could trigger a leap in time. The hero of the story ‘Mike’ gets a taste of war time life in 1940’s London. He experiences the thrill of a flight in a war time bomber and the terror as the aircraft is blown from the sky by an enemy night fighter. He falls for a woman and witnesses the deaths of her family. When he finds himself back in his own time he meets the woman’s granddaughter, discovers that the ‘Kathleen’ of the title is still alive and declares his displaced love for her, and finds he is falling for Kathleen junior.
‘Do not disturb’ tells the story of a long forgotten tomb, discovered on Derbyshire farm land. The spirit of the long dead monarch is disturbed from his rest and takes his new discoverers to be his newly chosen guardians.
Another book, just finished, is about the cosmetic collapse of society. What would happen if trace elements of every application of make-up was retained in the skin of the user and eventually reached saturation level? how would humanity cope if they couldn’t be beautiful any more?
